ATHS Class of 1951 50th Reunion Project
Guardhouse Restoration Objective - To renovate or have funds committed for the restoration of the Arsenal Guardhouse at the Main (Michigan Street) Gate of the Arsenal Technical High School campus by June 2001. _________________________________ The Guardhouse is the building most students, teachers, and visitors see as they enter the Tech High School campus. It is their first impression of our school and implies the quality of the education to be found within its precincts. The present, neglected condition of the Guardhouse sends a false message about the academic quality and the social commitment of ATHS graduates, past, present, and future. The Guardhouse is worthy of its status as an historic landmark with its origin in the Civil War era*. It is a worthwhile cause for restoration to its original state of prominence as the school security office where visitors must check in before they can proceed on to the campus. The Class of 1951 is spearheading this project to restore the Guardhouse to its welcoming status as the harbinger of the unique facility and capabilities that lie beyond this portal. It will send the correct message about the quality and commitment of Tech High School Alumni. Members of the Class of 1951 are asked for donations for the Guardhouse Restoration Project. Perhaps, other "Reunion Classes" would contribute to the effort. All graduates and "Friends of Tech" are invited to participate in the endeavor. Please give some serious consideration to helping with this project. Any contribution is valuable. The level of support from Tech alumni and interested individuals is a powerful incentive to philanthropic organizations capable of funding a significant portion of the cost of restoration. Tax deductible checks payable to: Tech High School Alumni Association with a memo or comment for: Guardhouse Restoration can be sent to: Kathleen
McAdams or Dewey
Garrett Realization of the Guardhouse Restoration will make Techs entry into the new millennium very special for everyone involved. Try to attend the Alumni Day 2001 celebration on 16 June. The total project cost is $154,000. * A short history of the Guardhouses (2 originally) can be found by clicking here.
