Aurelia Davis
Mother of Tom Little, '60

(Aurelia passed away in May, 2003.
Please click here to read her wonderful memorial.)

Aurelia Davis was a Cannon Kiddie and one of Ella Sengenberger's protégés. Many of us who attended Tech in the late 50's will remember Ella and two other teachers she knew: Alice and Olive Brown. She reveres the days of classes on the old campus, proud that she was one of the people who helped lay out the nature preserve on the north end of the campus. After high school she became an actress, first around Indianapolis with other young aspirants including Bob Maloy (who later taught English and drama at Tech), Gaylord Allen (who later became a guidance counselor at Tech) and other Tech grads.

She moved to New York soon after and was active in repertory theater around the city and on Long Island and just missed a part in the original Our Town. One of her happiest times was working at the World's Fair in 1939-40 for General Motors on the fabulous look 20 years into the future: the Futurama.  She was involved in all aspects of the GM office for the Fair, and has many reminiscences about the thrill of being part of such a dramatic exposition and coming together of nations before the fair was closed as Europe splintered under the beginnings of WWII.

Aurelia met and married Bill Little, an British émigré and accounting student  at NYU and moved to San Francisco Bay area until 1945, when she divorced him and returned to Indianapolis to live with her mother, Aurelia Lafferty, in the same home where she lives today on the near east side. (Her only child, Tom Little, '60, was born in California, but lived there only long enough to  adapt to the weather.)  She worked first for Wirebound Box as a sales engineer and later for another packaging company, and finally for a cartage firm  before her retirement in 1977.

Aurelia was very active in the Democratic Party and still keeps in close touch with long-time Indianapolis Representative Andy Jacobs and other people in government. She is a confirmed letter writer and passionate about the causes she adopts. She served as Co-chair of Hoosiers for Peace and joined  many anti-war activities during the Viet Nam war. She joined All Souls Unitarian Church in the late 40's and has been an active member there ever since, serving on various committees, and at one time editing the church bulletin.

She has stayed in touch with several of her classmates and friends from Tech,  and still likes to talk about her adventures as an actress and young woman around town during the Great Depression. A few years ago, she wrote an extensive memoir (we are currently recruiting volunteers to retype it into  word processing), and we intend to post the parts relevant to Tech on the  website soon.
